Day 1: Fez - Ifrane - Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Merzouga

Early pick up in the morning, you’ll head to the gateway of the Sahara Desert while including a short break in the beautiful city of Ifrane. This surprisingly unique city was nominated as the 2nd cleanest in the world in 2015. Have a nice drive through the UNESCO listed cedar forest with the possibility to stop by the friendly endangered barbary apes. After lunch, which will take place in Midelt or Zaida, you’ll continue on the track crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, then the dramatic Ziz Valley before reaching the Sahara Desert of Erg Chebbi.
Upon arrival, you’ll have a camel ride experience in the golden sand dunes where you can enjoy the sunning view of the sunset and the possibility to do the sand boarding. Get back to the desert camp where you can have a delicious dinner served in the spacious tented restaurant or under the stars followd by a great time of entertainment. Wake up in the early morning, climb the sand dune up and enjoy one of the most stunning views of the sunrise with the sunlight illuminating the horizons. After breakfast, you’ll have a tour in the desert area where you can learn how the traditional system of irrigation known as “Khettaras” works in the region. Drive through the village of Merzouga to Khamlia Village, which is resided by people with dark complexion brought as slaves from the Sub-Saharan Lands and are known for the Gnawa Music that they are used to performing to the guest visitors.
You’ll, then, include a short break in the dates market in Erfoud before continuing on the track through the palm-dotted valley. Cross the Atlas Mountains before spending the night in either Midelt or in the tiny village of Boulajoul.
